SHANGHAI, Aug. 29, 2026 — As summer drew to a close, the spirit of giving remained strong. The Brain+ Club at Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School (SSBS) returned to Huiyin Blue House to join the Zhuanqiao community in presenting the second “Caring for the Children of the Stars” charity concert. Through instrumental music, dance, and recitation, students shared messages of understanding and support for children with autism and launched a fundraising appeal. Their acts of kindness came together like a constellation, reflecting the compassion and sense of responsibility of a new generation.
The concert opened with remarks from the hosts, who reviewed SSBS students’ longstanding involvement in public service. Through charity bazaars and other initiatives, the school has raised funds and partnered with the Zhuanqiao Town Charity Workstation on assistance projects, including donations of supplies to communities in Yunnan. By stepping beyond campus and reaching across regions, students have come to understand responsibility and mutual support through hands-on service.
The program began with Brain+ Club founder and president Li Zewei performing the piano solo Thunder in a Drought. Its bright, lively melody energized the audience. Li Yunong then presented a dance to Big Fish, expressing protection and companionship. Qiu Tian performed an original piano piece composed for the charity event, Starry Sounds Without Borders, conveying understanding and empathy for children with autism through its gentle melody. Chen Ruofan, Li Yan, Lu Yihan, Tang Cheng, Wang Xu, and Yang Qianxin recited For the Star You Protect, reflecting on the meaning of patient companionship. Gu Yini followed with Schubert’s Impromptu D. 899, No. 3, and Zhang Yunan closed the segment with Bruch’s Romance for viola, leaving a warm and lingering note.
During the intermission, Jiang Xiaowen, head of the Zhuanqiao Town Liaison Group of the Minhang District Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, joined Brain+ Club president Li Zewei in launching a fundraising appeal. Jiang introduced the Love 365 Star Children Fund, which supports low-income families raising children with autism as well as other groups in need, and encouraged guests to contribute in whatever way they could. Holding a donation board with a QR code, Li invited attendees to turn goodwill into practical support for the initiative.
The second half of the concert combined music, fragrance, and science education. Special guest Wu Yani, director of the Scientific Aromatherapist Training Program at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, explained and demonstrated how a duet could be paired with three essential oils, inviting the audience to experience music through both hearing and scent. As the event drew to a close, Li reviewed the club’s efforts to take students beyond campus and into community service, and invited more classmates to join future volunteer activities.
Beyond the concert, students visited the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) History and Culture Museum of Minhang District. Guided by museum staff, they learned about the development of the CPPCC, its functions centered on the two major themes of unity and democracy, and the system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Through historical materials, exhibits, and discussion, the students gained a clearer understanding of the development of Minhang and the district’s enduring tradition of public service.
Bringing together a museum visit, science outreach, and a charity performance, the day connected learning beyond the classroom with the school’s commitment to public service. Brain+ Club will continue to support people with special needs, carry forward a spirit of compassion, and keep the spark of public service alive for generations to come.
