SSBS & HBBSS 8th Strategy Meeting: A Shared Vision

On May 29, Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School (SSBS) and Hangzhou Bay Bilingual School Shanghai (HBBSS) proudly hosted their 8th Annual International Faculty Strategic Development Committee Meeting, bringing together educational leaders from across both campuses to reflect on the past year’s achievements and shape a shared vision for the future.

The event was led by Mr. Pan Guanwen, who highlighted the many accomplishments of students throughout the academic year while outlining an inspiring roadmap for continued growth and innovation. Throughout his address, Mr. Pan reaffirmed the schools’ unwavering commitment to placing students at the center of every decision, ensuring that their development, well-being, and success remain the driving force behind all initiatives.

During the meeting, Deans and Head Teachers shared key accomplishments from the past year and discussed strategies to further enhance teaching and learning across both schools. SSBS High School Dean, Addisu Seyoum, spoke about the globally competitive students emerging from the SSBS and HBBSS educational ecosystem while emphasizing the importance of continually refining the curriculum to meet the evolving needs of students. SSBS Grade 12 Leader, Nathan Plageman, echoed his dean’s words and spoke of the importance of fine tuning the curriculum to meet student’s needs. SSBS Middle School Assistant Dean, Stacie Sulies, highlighted increased collaboration between Primary, Middle, and High School leaders in the development of a comprehensive writing program spanning Grades 1–12. SSBS Primary School Head Teacher, Brian Rhea, thanked everyone for their supports throughout the semester whereas Grade 4 Leader, Calum Roy, discussed the importance of strengthening partnerships with parents to support student growth and ensure learning continues beyond the classroom.

HBBSS Middle School Head Teacher, Tom Latham, spoke about the incredible students and their exemplary achievements within the past year while HBBSS Primary School Head Teacher, Alan Lyon, reported on the improvements that have been made on a variety of fronts in the past year under his leadership. Faculty members also engaged in meaningful discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, sharing best practices, and identifying new opportunities to support student achievement. These conversations reflected the schools’ shared commitment to continuous improvement and educational excellence.

The event concluded with a group photograph alongside Heijia General Manager Mr. Tang Qishi and a reaffirmation of the schools’ collective vision for the future. Guided by the educational philosophy and core principles established by School Superintendent Principal Tang, both schools remain committed to working together to provide exceptional educational opportunities and create pathways for success for every student.

With a shared sense of purpose, strong collaboration, and a steadfast focus on student growth, the future remains bright for SSBS, HBBSS, and the communities they serve.
