During the trip, students explored different exhibition halls filled with creative glass works, from a pair of wings to rocket models. Students watched artists shape melted glass into delicate pieces of dolphins, pumpkins, or other artworks. The best part was when students got to visit the children's museum, where they completed tasks and puzzles in their activity booklets when going through the museum.

Students saw delicate flowers in soft pinks and purples with translucent petals, and crystal-clear dolphins frozen mid-leap. The artists demonstrated the fascinating process of glassmaking, heating molten glass until it glowed bright orange, then blowing, stretching, and shaping it with long metal rods. Each step—from heating to cooling—highlighted the precision, patience, and creativity required to make these stunning works of art.

The field trip allowed students to experience the connection between science and art in a fun way. “Today, we saw knowledge shine through glass,” one student said. Everyone left the museum happily, carrying joyful memories and new knowledge from the trip.

On a bright and balmy spring day filled with fresh vitality, all Grade 6 students from Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School embarked on a delightful spring outing to Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden. Carefully and thoughtfully organized by the school, this outdoor activity aimed to free students from the confines of classroom study, encourage them to embrace the beauty of spring, and combine leisure with the exploration of ecological knowledge.

Upon arriving at the botanical garden, students were instantly attracted by the marvelous scenery. Vast green lawns stretched as far as the eye could see, colorful blooming flowers painted the hillsides, and gentle breezes carried the refreshing scent of plants through the air. Under the guidance of teachers and professional garden instructors, the Grade 6 students visited several core scenic spots in groups, including the tropical greenhouse, the rare flower exhibition area, the wetland ecological zone, and the mountain forest hiking trails.

Inside the large greenhouse, students explored tropical plants that they rarely encounter in daily life. They carefully observed the unique characteristics, growth habits, and living environments of various rare plants while listening attentively to explanations about plant classification and ecological protection. By connecting textbook knowledge with real-life natural scenes, students gained a deeper understanding of the natural world. Filled with curiosity and enthusiasm, they actively shared their ideas and asked thoughtful questions, demonstrating a strong desire to explore nature.

During the leisure time after sightseeing, students enjoyed group activities and interactions along the peaceful forest paths. They walked and chatted with classmates, appreciated the ingenious landscape design of Chenshan Botanical Garden, and frolicked freely in the relaxed and pleasant spring atmosphere. This outing not only relieved daily academic pressure but also strengthened friendships among classmates, greatly enhancing class unity and students’ sense of belonging.

This spring outing was far more than a simple sightseeing trip. It served as a vivid outdoor classroom that broadened students’ horizons, enriched their extracurricular experiences, and raised awareness of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. At the same time, it also nurtured students’ sense of teamwork, discipline, and gratitude for nature and life.

The wonderful one-day field trip came to a successful end. All Grade 6 students returned to school with joyful memories, valuable knowledge, and unforgettable experiences. This meaningful spring activity has become a precious and beautiful part of their campus life.

On May 9th, 2026, the 7th and 8th graders of SSBS went on an exciting field trip to Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park. Known as the "Root of Shanghai", Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park is a comprehensive cultural and tourist destination located in Songjiang District, about 30 kilometers from downtown Shanghai. It sits within Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort and spans approximately 1.07 square kilometers. This archaeological site preserves a continuous cultural heritage dating back over 6,000 years, from the Neolithic Age through the Liangzhu, Maqiao, and Wuyue cultures, and into the historical dynasties. It is the largest and most archaeologically significant excavation site in Shanghai, yielding the richest array of artifacts. This historically rich land is now a public park that is free for citizens to enter and enjoy the fresh landscapes and ever-beautiful wildlife. Although the park might not be as exhilarating as amusement parks, it has indeed given students a whole new experience of what a metropolitan city like Shanghai can contain.

At 9 o’clock, students filed onto separate buses and embarked on a 40-minute ride to Songjiang District. With the guidance of several experienced guides, every single student was led past the famous opening bridge into the middle of the park. Many classes chose to take a group picture in order to record such an important annual experience for both students and teachers. A few minutes later, as teachers and guides emphasized meeting times and crucial safety guidelines, students were sent to roam free for the rest of the morning, exploring the huge park as much as they could.

Many students who went deep into the park noticed the Fuling Pagoda, which is the tallest building in the park and also offers a panoramic view of the entire park and Songjiang District. It is a monumental piece of architecture and proves to be an extremely outstanding building, cleverly combining water with plant life, wide gardens with tall towers, and finally the loudness outside to the peacefulness inside. The pagoda is truly an emblem of Chinese culture and important natural values.

As the time reached noon, students were starting to become hungry. Despite being a park of ancient relics, Guangfulin has made sure that without destroying the integrity and peacefulness of the park, elements of modern society were integrated into its grounds. Shops and restaurants could be seen at every corner, providing students with a wide variety of foods and beverages. Many students had a marvelous lunch while admiring the beauty of the park.

In the afternoon, students were told to meet at the bottom of the Fuling Pagoda to experience an even more exciting trip. Soon, students were lining up to go into the Underwater Museum, which is the most iconic building in Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park. On the outside, it appears to be only three triangular thatched, pyramid shaped roofs floating on Fuling Lake. However, as students filed down steep steps, they found themselves inside a cavern of history. The museum contained up to 6000 years of local history, spanning from the first humans to step on the land to the 1950s, giving students a deeply educational tour of Chinese culture and history.

After coming up to ground level again, students got on the bus headed home. Everyone thanked the guides and applauded the drivers who drove every single person safely back to school. At 3 o’clock, most students were back in their home rooms, still unable to pull themselves away from such an exciting experience. Not only did students witness the miracle of such an enormous park being built in such a busy city, they were also given a great history lesson that pulled them into history itself.

On May 9th, with a gentle spring breeze blowing, the ninth-grade students embarked on their final field trip of middle school. This time, their destination was Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park. Upon entering the park, the first thing that caught their eyes was the spectacular track of a roller coaster. Soon after, the students dispersed and followed their own plans, exploring in small groups.

Some headed to the amusement zone for excitement, while others chose to immerse themselves in the breathtaking killer whale show. A few went to the polar exhibit to learn more about Arctic and Antarctic animals. Of course, there were also those who simply strolled through the park, savoring the soft breeze brushing against their cheeks. As the returning bus started moving, the students carried a deeper understanding and respect for marine life with them. Without a doubt, this spring outing offered everyone an unforgettable experience.
