解码色彩,看见化学——记Chroma-Chem化学主题周

近日,星校高中部四楼中庭被赋予了新的色彩。由 Sulfuring化学社与F+研究社的叶珈丞Jason(11-1)、许尔凡Dennis(11-7)、周榈乔Colin(11-7) 以及任家弘Justin(11-4) 同学联合策划主办的 “Chroma-Chem: A Colorful Chemistry Expo” 化学主题展及实验周活动,在这里拉开帷幕。

Recently, the fourth floor atrium of StarSchool High School has been given a new palette of colors. The “Chroma Chem: A Colorful Chemistry Expo” themed exhibition and experimental week, co planned and hosted by the Sulfuring Chemistry Club and F+ Research Club, officially kicked off here. The student organizers included Ye Jiacheng (11-1), Xu Erfan (11-7), Zhou Lüqiao (11-7), and Ren Jiahong (11-4).

色彩之美:中庭微型博物馆

步入四楼中庭,仿佛走进一座微型博物馆。一面名为“神奇元素在哪里”的巨型立体周期表展墙,通过镂空设计、可以翻转的元素方块,生动地呈现了大家熟悉又陌生的化学元素。主体展区包括图文并茂的展板与玻璃展柜,专业的解说仿佛让陈列的化学品开口说了话,向观者揭示色彩背后的科学原理。

在这里,同学们见证了大地深处的矿石如何用金属离子书写永恒的色调——天然黄铁矿以其完美的立方体晶形诠释了几何美学;紫水晶则展示了微量铁离子创造的紫色浪漫;萤石的幽幽光亮诉说着电子跃迁的秘密;铋晶体表面流光溢彩的氧化膜展示了热力学与动力学共创的结构奇迹。

化学家模仿自然、驾驭结构的智慧也在此体现。更令人惊喜的是,很多展品是由同学们亲手制备的:朱奕然(11-4)带来的 g-C₃N₄二维材料,像一层层堆叠的纸,可以作捕捉阳光的“绿色催化剂”;由F+研究社黄瑞轩(10-8)培育的硫酸铜晶体,宛如一朵永不凋谢的蓝色“宝石花”盛开在枝头;而周榈乔(11-7)展示的 ZIFs材料,则演绎了被称为“分子乐高”的多孔骨架结构。

展览还特别设置了“触手可及的化学”生活科普区,揭示了牙膏预防龋齿、果酱防腐背后的化学原理。正如结语所言:“化学不只是实验室里的反应式,而是每天都在发生的生活细节。”

Stepping into the fourth floor atrium felt like walking into a miniature museum. A giant three dimensional periodic table wall titled “Where Are the Magical Elements?” used hollow out designs and flip over element blocks to vividly present chemical elements that are both familiar and unfamiliar.

The main exhibition area featured informative display boards and glass cabinets. With professional explanations, the chemicals on display seemed to “speak for themselves,” revealing the scientific principles behind their colors.

Here, students witnessed how ores deep in the earth use metal ions to write “eternal hues”:

•Natural pyrite, with its perfect cubic crystals, embodied geometric beauty;

•Amethyst showcased the purple romance created by trace iron ions;

•The faint glow of fluorite whispered the secrets of electron transitions;

•The iridescent oxide film on bismuth crystals displayed the structural wonders co created by thermodynamics and kinetics.

The exhibition also reflected chemists’ wisdom in imitating nature and mastering structures. What was even more surprising was that many exhibits were prepared by the students themselves:

•Zhu Yiran (11-4) brought g C₃N₄ two dimensional materials, which look like stacked layers of paper and can act as “green catalysts” that capture sunlight;

•Copper sulfate crystals grown by Huang Ruixuan (10 -8) from the F+ Research Club bloomed like an ever lasting blue “gemstone flower” on its stem;

•The ZIFs materials displayed by Zhou Lüqiao (11-7) demonstrated the porous framework structures known as “molecular LEGO.”

A special “Chemistry Within Reach” popular science zone was set up to explain the chemistry behind daily life, such as how toothpaste prevents tooth decay and how jam achieves preservation. As the concluding remarks stated: “Chemistry is not just reaction equations in a laboratory; it is the details of life happening every day.”

实验之趣:触摸科学的脉搏

如果说展览是静态的凝视,那么放学后的实验则是动态的探索。作为本次活动的重头戏,在化学组老师与实验室老师的全力支持与全程守护下,并在确保每一位参与学生均获监护人知情同意的前提下,由Sulfuring化学社与F+研究社的骨干成员以及李天然(11-7)同学提供实验指导,实验活动在化学实验室火热开展。

周一:在黑暗中,两种透明液体相遇的瞬间,光芒骤然点亮。而在另一实验室的烧杯中,金色的微晶缓缓沉降演绎了一场绚烂的“黄金雨”。同学们在屏息凝神中,直观感受到了能量以光的形式释放的震撼。

周二:同学们利用物质在不同温度下溶解度的变化,制作了专属的“风暴瓶”。随着温度的冷却,晶体在瓶中生长、蔓延,仿佛将凛冬的雪景封存在了玻璃之中,令人称奇。

周三:最为神奇的色彩变换压轴登场。无色的溶液在预期的时间瞬间变色;或是随着倾倒摇晃,液体在不同颜色间循环往复。这不仅是视觉的魔术,更是同学们对动力学速率方程的亲身体验。

If the exhibition was a static gaze, then the after school experiments were a dynamic exploration. As the highlight of the event, the experimental sessions were held in the chemistry laboratories with the full support and supervision of the chemistry teachers and lab instructors. All participating students had obtained prior informed consent from their guardians.

The core members of the Sulfuring Chemistry Club and F+ Research Club, together with Li Tianran (11 7), served as student instructors.

Monday:

In the dark, two transparent liquids met, and light suddenly lit up the room. In another laboratory, golden microcrystals slowly settled, performing a gorgeous “golden rain.” Holding their breath, students directly experienced the shock of energy being released in the form of light.

Tuesday:

Using the change in solubility of substances at different temperatures, students made their own “storm glasses.” As the temperature dropped, crystals grew and spread inside the bottles, as if a winter snow scene had been sealed in glass, inspiring wonder.

Wednesday:

The most magical color transformations took the stage as the grand finale. Colorless solutions suddenly changed color at the expected moment; or, as they were poured and shaken, the liquids cycled through different colors. These were not just visual magic shows, but also students’ hands on experience with kinetic rate equations.

笃行致远:从热爱走向探索

从本次活动中,我们看到了一群高中生如何用自己对化学的热情,将枯燥的方程式化作了指尖的星辰与瓶中的风景,将深奥的理论变成了可观、可感的艺术,在每一位参与者心中播下了一颗好奇的种子。

它不仅是一次学科知识的展示,更是一场关于 “AP+”学习理念的实践,这里的加号意味着从书本与课堂,延伸至实验室里的多维探究;从被动接受知识,转向主动探索科学前沿。愿每一位驻足观看、亲手实验的同学,都能在看见色彩绚丽的同时,读懂其中化学的深邃,在AP+的道路上探索更远的风景。

Through this event, we saw how a group of high school students used their passion for chemistry to turn dry equations into “stars at their fingertips” and “scenery in a bottle,” transforming profound theories into observable, tangible art, and sowing a seed of curiosity in every participant’s heart.

This was not only a display of academic knowledge, but also a practice of the “AP+” learning philosophy. Here, the “plus” means extending from textbooks and classrooms to multi dimensional inquiry in the laboratory; shifting from passive acceptance of knowledge to active exploration of the scientific frontier.

May every student who stopped to watch or took part in the experiments be able to see the brilliance of colors, while also reading the depth of the chemistry behind them, and continue to explore further horizons on the path of AP+.
