SSBS G5 Graduation Ceremony

As the summer insects sing and the farewell song begins, it is once again graduation season.

On the afternoon of June 6, 2025, the school auditorium of Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School (SSBS) was lit up with festive lights. All the fifth-grade graduates, dressed in academic gowns, gathered with their teachers and families to witness this significant moment and celebrate the successful conclusion of their elementary school years.

With warm introductions by the hosts Mr. Derek and Ms. Vicky, the following school leaders took their seats to enthusiastic applause: Mr. Tang Shengchang, Superintendent of SSBS; Ms. Li Ying, Deputy Superintendent of SSBS; Ms. Hu Qingtian, School Party Committee Secretary; Ms. Ma Danye, Principal of Primary and Junior High Division; Ms. Zheng Shengjie, Director of Academic Affairs in Primary and Junior High Division.

At the beginning of the ceremony, student representative Kate from Class 5-2 fondly reflected on her five-year journey of learning. She expressed heartfelt gratitude, recounting how the enriching curriculum, the unwavering support of her teachers, and the companionship of her classmates had contributed to her growth in SSBS.

Next, Class 5-7 Danny’s mother gave a speech as the parent representative, where she shared her thoughts for the graduates from three perspectives: "pride for their growth", "gratitude to the school", and "outlook on the future".

Then, Ms. Hu Qingtian gave a heartfelt speech, turned the focus to the era of AI, encouraging students to embrace diversity and individuality as guiding principles, urging them to become lifelong learners and deep thinkers.

Afterwards, two parent representatives, on behalf of all fifth-grade parents and students, presented the school with a 3D printer. This gift is intended to support the school and students on their path of innovation, with the hope that they will “print” a future that is even brighter, more exciting, and more extraordinary.

In the solemn tassel-turning ceremony, teachers turned the tassels and handed out diplomas to each student, taking commemorative photos together. This ritual not only symbolized the successful completion of their five-year academic journey, but also marked the beginning of a brand-new chapter in their pursuit of knowledge.

A poetic recitation followed, where students “connected” with Mr. Liang Qichao through AI and recited “The Youth of China Says” together. Their passionate and powerful delivery filled the hall with patriotic spirit, echoing the famous line: “If the youth are strong, the nation will be strong.”

Finally, a group performance of the English song “Hero” brought the ceremony to its climax. The graduates sang with clear, youthful voices, expressing the courage to grow. As the stage lights lit up in time with the melody, it felt like a sky full of stars beginning their voyage.

And so, the 2025 Fifth-Grade Graduation of Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School came to a joyful close—not just as an end, but as the first bold step into futures full of possibility.
