2018.12.05 | G6-G9: Chinese Culture Week

In order to spread our Chinese traditional culture and inherit Chinese spirit, Grade 6 to Grade 9 held a Chinese Culture Week from November 24th to November 30th.

Every student received an assignment paper with all the exciting missions last Monday. Missions included watching documentaries about traditional Chinese culture, practicing calligraph and doing traditional Chinese crafts. Students learnt a lot about Chinese culture while having fun in those activities. “I came home begging my mom to cook the dishes I’ve watched in the documentary on Tuesday!” A student claimed.

On Friday, if you visited SSBS, you would encounter people who you might think have travelled from the past. The teachers and the students dressed up in various ancient Chinese costumes. Some had tunic suit; some had tang suit; some had cheongsam. What behind these delicate clothes is our profound culture.

In the afternoon, G6 students welcomed the fair - “Palace Museum Exhibition”. It was almost as fabulous as the charity fair. Students introduced the palaces they had researched to the "customers" who could choose to buy tickets to support the host or buy souvenirs from the host. As each student returned to their home classroom, they were loaded with souvenirs and chatted excitedly with their friends.

While for G7 to G9 students, they participated in a Chinese knowledge competition at the auditorium. Competition was divided to two parts - multiple choices and essay questions. After the first round, only two groups would stay on the stage. Finally, the player from 8 (2) won the champion. Although there was only one champion, every student learned a lot from it. They all deserve our admires and praises!

The Chinese Culture Week is very meaningful. Students enjoyed themselves, released their study pressure, and of course, learned much knowledge about Chinese culture, which they should be proud of. When the Week was over, a student fantasized “How I wish that every week would be Chinese Culture Week!”
