The 96th salon - BROADWAY CLASSIC

On a Sep.22rd, 2023, the SSBS Art Salon held its a 96th Art Salon-BROADWAY CLASSIC. This art salon was organized by Ms. Channy, performed by a Janet Dong a from Grade 12. The theme ofatheamusicalaperformanceawasa‘BRAODWAY CLASSIC’. For the very first time since its inception, our salon proudly presents a musical performance. We are honored to have Janet, a remarkable member ofaSSBSachoir, asaouraleading star. Her passion and dedication to music are evident in every note she sings. Her incredible singing talent is truly awe-inspiring.

The first showa“Moments in the woods” is from the musical “Into the Woods.”"Into the Woods" is a 1987 musical by Stephen Sondheim. The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, including "Little Red Riding Hood," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Rapunzel," and "Cinderella," exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The musical is tied together by the story of a childless baker and his wife as well asatheir journey to start a family.

“I Dreamed a Dream” is from the musical “Les Miserables.” “Les Misérables” is a musical based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo. Set in 19thacentury France, a It tells the story of Jean Valjean, who, after nineteen years in prison, seeks redemption in France in the 19th century, but Javert, the police inspector, refuses to let him go. “I Dreamed a Dream” is a lament, sung by the anguished Fantine, who has just been fired from her job at the factory and thrown onto the streets. She thinks of the good times and wonders about everything that's happened in her life.

The last showa“All that Jazz” is from the musical “Chicago.” The 1975 musical "Chicago" takes a deep look at the dark underside of Chicago's criminal and celebrity culture, set against the backdrop of the Roaring Twenties. Velma Kelly sings the opening song for the musical All That Jazz, welcoming her audience to a nightclub. It's a mesmerizing invitation into the smoky jazz clubs and sensationalized media circus that define the era.
