G10-G12 2025 New Year Show

On December 26, 2024, as the New Year approached, all high school teachers and students gathered in the auditorium to celebrate the annual New Year Party (NYP). With meticulous planning and collaboration between students and teachers, a total of 23 spectacular performances were staged, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in 2025.

The party opened with a lively performance of "Just the Two of Us" by Dipper Power and Mr. Espey. Their cheerful music instantly immersed the audience in a joyous atmosphere. Following this, the six hosts announced the start of NYP Part One – "Winter Overture".

The Fountain Philharmonic Orchestra captivated the audience with a dramatic rendition of "The Phantom of the Opera" medley, transporting them into a world of mystery and enchantment.

Claire from Grade 11-5 and Mr. Jacky moved the crowd with their heartfelt performance, winning enthusiastic applause. Their every lyric expressed an indescribable longing and persistence, demonstrating the powerful emotional resonance of music.

Aurora from Grade 10-6 presented a solo Chinese zither performance of "枫桥夜泊", evoking the deep affection Chinese literati hold for Jiangnan water towns through its soulful melody. Following this, Kevin from Grade 10-3 and Justin from Grade 10-4 delivered a brilliant erhu duet of "轻舞飞扬", their fingertips dancing across the strings to produce a melodious yet powerful tune.  

Alex from Grade 11-6 stunned the audience with a close-up magic card trick. All eyes were glued to the seemingly magical deck of cards in his hands, and as his trick succeeded, gasps of amazement and applause echoed through the hall.

The first dance medley was performed by Dauphine from Grade 10-2 and Sherry from Grade 10-7. Dauphine’s performance of "一吻天荒" expressed her deep bond with dance, symbolizing her dreams and aspirations. Sherry’s vibrant "花" showcased the passionate spirit of the Uygur people, radiating cultural energy.

Lucy from Grade 10-8 and Lisa from Grade 10-7 brought warmth and nostalgia with their rendition of "Last Christmas", while Brady from Grade 12-4 and Claudia from Grade 12-2 moved the audience with their soulful performance of "Always Remember Us This Way".  

Next, the first Lottery draw of NYP took place. With hosts guiding the process, the second and third prize winners were announced. Students nervously checked their numbers as exclamations of joy erupted from the audience. Meanwhile, the hosts invited a few students to participate in a lively "Number Bomb" game, heightening the excitement in the hall.

The Fountain Band performed "Enter Sandman", transitioning the event into Part Two – "Symphony of Silver Bells". Their intense rhythms and gripping guitar solos created a nightmarish scene, leaving a deep impression on the audience.

The school’s dance team brought the energy to a climax with "One Spark", showcasing passion and vitality. Their dynamic movements demonstrated how even a small spark could ignite an entire galaxy of stars.

Richard from Grade 10-2, Nelly from Grade 11-4, and Chloe from Grade 11-1 collaborated on an instrumental medley featuring a warm fingerstyle guitar and tranquil violin duet, immersing the audience in a serene, pastoral atmosphere.  

The students of Grade 11-7 delivered the skit "Chicken Soup’s Here", blending popular internet humor with creative storytelling. Their lively performance had the audience laughing throughout and highlighted their teamwork and creativity.

Dance performances of "Attention" by Grade 10 students and "Trendsetter + Run BTS" by Grade 12 students were electrifying. With precise rhythm and powerful movements, they instantly captured the audience’s attention, showcasing remarkable stage presence.

Aceline from Grade 12-7 and Lilian from Grade 12-2 performed the rap "Blow Right Now", unleashing an unstoppable storm of energy and keeping the audience fully engaged.

Nina from Grade 11-7 and Justin from Grade 12-2 combined rap and dance, taking the audience into a world of roaring engines and fiery passion. The rhythmic beats and powerful performance were met with cheers and applause.

Wang Mingyang from Grade 12-3, one of China’s top 100 and East China’s top 20 yo-yo players, showcased his extraordinary skills on stage. Every precise move and dazzling trick left the audience in awe.

The high school choir performed "Frozen", captivating the audience with their pure voices that painted a magical icy wonderland. Their seamless teamwork brought the Disney classic to life, earning them a standing ovation.

After the stunning conclusion of "Symphony of Silver Bells", the second round of Lottery revealed the remaining second-prize winners and the grand first prize. The hosts then announced the final segment: "Eternal Lament of Light".

The Random Play Music Club presented the character theme song from Genshin Impact, perfectly embodying the quirky personality and performance finesse of Furina from the game.  

In the following medley, several performers showcased a variety of musical styles. Elaine from Grade 12-7 performed "Together Near or Far", touching hearts with its message of enduring love despite distance. A guitar medley of "One More Night," "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," and "Forever Young" evoked a nostalgic atmosphere. Students from Grade 10-5 performed the lively "Try Everything" from Zootopia, inspiring the audience to embrace challenges and strive forward. Emily from Grade 11-1 and Ms. Channy’s duet of "Glitter" wove a unique yet harmonious blend of lyrics and melody, creating a whimsical charm.

    

Isabella from Grade 10-7 explored profound themes of life, time, and freedom with her ribbon gymnastics performance, symbolizing the journey from constraint to liberation. Nina from Grade 11-7 delivered a powerful dance performance, "Drama", expressing the struggle to break free from darkness and find light and freedom.

The O2 Band concluded the event with "You Won’t Let Me", a moving piece about resilience, love, and the relentless pursuit of dreams.

As NYP drew to a close, it was not just a celebration but also a showcase of hope and vitality for the New Year. May the wonderful memories of this event accompany us into 2025, inspiring everyone to chase their dreams and forge ahead into a bright future.
