The "Let Hope Play VIII" Charity Music Show
On the evening of Friday, November 22, 2024, the "Let Hope Play VIII" charity event began in the grand auditorium of Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School. This year's theme is "Daylight", which symbolizes hope for it is what one usually sees first after a prolonged night of darkness.
"Let Hope Play" is an annual charity event organized by the Build Love Club of SSBS, featuring performances by talented students from various grade levels. As in previous years, the funds raised from this year's concert will be donated to elementary school students in rural areas.
The first performance was by the Starriver Philharmonic Orchestra, a student ensemble of aspiring musicians. They performed a classical piece which created a dream-like atmosphere for the performances to come.
Following this, Emily presented a beautiful and enchanting dance performance,"Guli Turpan," showcasing the captivating charm of Xinjiang's music and dance.
Stephen performed his original pop song "Revival" with his gentle yet powerful voice:"I will feel like this, the revival of the day."
Taylor and Simon's duo comedy skit "I Want to Do Charity" was both humorous and yet also deeply thought-provoking.
Sisily presents us with a guzheng solo, “Rain, Lotus Blooms.” The beautiful melody clears the clouds and reveals the sun, inspiring everyone to firmly pursue their hopes for the future.
Cici and Aurora performed "Blue and White Porcelain" with a duet of the guzheng and piano, blending the two intruments' melodies to form a delicate image of this ancient tale.
Cici and Laura, with their soothing voices, brought a heartfelt rendition of a song about youthful friendships and the yearning we feel for these times long past.
After these lyrical performances, Alex wowed the audience with a dazzling Lacrimosa yo-yo performance. The small yo-yo moved in perfect sync to each beat of the drums, drawing excited cheers from the completely immersed audience.
After this, there was Justin's solo song, Ruby's piano solo Tori no Uta (The Song of Birds), and Alex's magic performance of predicting playing cards.
The exciting performance of Missiva D'amore by Emily and Chris was shortly after, expressing a sentimental message of love.
Next was Yolanda's piano performance of Chopin's Etude in E-flat major, Op. 10 No. 3 ("Tristesse"), followed by a dance of Up+Whiplash+See That by several talented dancers, bringing the event to an exciting peak.
Snow gave a heartfelt performance of "Stay With Me", also recieving birthday wishes from the audience. A special performace by two students from Grade 5 was next, bringing "This World Has So Many People" to life with their gentle singing voices and elegant dance.
Alex, who previously was doing card tricks, appeared for an encore and played a piano solo of Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King.
The students from the "Dream Star Culture" of middle school were the penultimate performers, showcasing their professional theatrical skills with a performance of an excerpt from the musical Hamilton.
The final act was a Jazz band performance by a G11 jazz band, and finally the curtains were drawn to a tremendous round of applause.
From the gathering of performers at the end of October to the official performance at the end of November, and the dedication of each student on stage as well as the behind-the-scenes efforts of the Energy Club and the TV station, the success of Let Hope Play VIII would not have been possible without the hard work of every student involved, both onstage and backstage. We hope this stunning event can capture the genuine kindness and loving hearts of our students as we strive to hold our torch and await the inevitable coming of dawn.
