The 2026 Campus Sports Meet of SSBS
With spring breezes, warm sunlight, and lively cheers on the sports field, the 2026 Campus Sports Meet of Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School kicked off on June 1st. The event featured a rich variety of competitions, including team tug-of-war, track events such as men's and women's 60m, 200m, 800m/1000m races and 4×100m relays, as well as field events like high jump, long jump and shot put. It offered all students a fantastic stage to unleash their passion and showcase their talents.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Ding Yuhan and Yang Xinran, the presidents of the Sports Department. The national anthem played as the national flag rose, filling the sports field with a solemn atmosphere. The athlete representative and the referee representative delivered speeches in turn, encouraging all participants to show enthusiasm and sportsmanship through perseverance. Next, the athlete representative delivered the oath, promising to abide by competition rules and compete fairly.
The tug-of-war, a signature team event, got underway first. Teams of 10 students from two classes stood on opposite sides, gripping the thick rope firmly and leaning their weight backward. The red midline swayed back and forth across the central line, with every dramatic reversal keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.
On the sprint tracks, the 60m and 200m athletes crouched to build momentum. The moment the starting gun fired, they shot off the blocks like arrows, racing full speed for the finish line. Middle and long-distance races tested competitors' stamina and willpower. Over the long 800m and 1000m courses, many athletes were already drenched with sweat but still persevered, gritting their teeth and adjusting their breathing till the end, demonstrating inspiring determination and endurance. The exciting 4×100m relay was not only a contest of speed, but also a trial of team spirit. Relay members from each class waited with full concentration and burst forward once receiving the baton. Every smooth, precise baton pass embodied their teamwork and chemistry. In addition to the student teams, a teacher relay team also joined the race, drawing crowds of students who cheered loudly.
Meanwhile, high jump competitions were in full swing inside the gymnasium. Athletes gradually picked up speed during their run-up, building momentum like a musical crescendo before planting their foot accurately at the take-off mark. Takeoff, bar clearance and landing formed a seamless, fluid sequence of movements. The crossbar was raised time and again, yet the athletes were always ready for the next challenge.
In the sand pit beside the field, athletes moved with agility through their run-ups, takeoffs, flight and landings. Their bodies traced elegant arcs in mid-air before landing smoothly in the soft sand, drawing rounds of cheers from the audience.
At the shot put zone on the basketball court, athletes stood with focused composure, holding the shot put tightly. They turned, bent low, channeled all their strength and threw the shot, which traced a sharp, full parabola through the air. The records for throwing distance were broken time and again, vividly demonstrating their skill and effort.
Breezes rustled the treetops under the bright midday sun. The lively competitions came to an end, and the cheers gradually faded into the evening wind. During this sports meet, all athletes kept pushing their limits and spared no effort in every run, jump, and throw. Sweat-soaked shirts and the unyielding perseverance they represent left lasting memories for every competitor. May all of us carry the resilience forged on the sports field in our days ahead, fear no hardships, take steady steps forward, and keep striving toward our goals.
