G5-G9 Opening Ceremony
As the winter chill gives way to the warmth of spring, SSBS marked the beginning of a new semester with a vibrant Opening Ceremony. The school invited Principal Ma Danye, Deputy Principal and Teaching Director Zheng Shengjie and Teaching Director Wu Lele to attend the ceremony, and the Starriver community came together to celebrate this fresh chapter. After a warm welcome from host Yang Xiaohe, the ceremony took a solemn turn as all students rose to salute the Five-Star Red Flag.
After the flag-raising ceremony, students from each grade stepped up to share their thoughts and aspirations, reflecting on how to push their boundaries and embrace the new challenges of the semester ahead.
First, Monica from Class 7-3 talked about the importance of critical thinking and active engagement with what we learn. She emphasized how intentional learning and constantly asking "how" can benefit our studies.
Next, Emily from Class 8-1 spoke on the topic of embracing our true selves, even if that means going against what the outside world expects. She encouraged us to bravely follow our hearts and pursue our dreams.
Following that, Happy from Class 9-3 gave advice on how to balance academics and activities and thrive in both. She shared tips on planning our time, making the most of every spare moment, boldly exploring different fields and interests, and taking care of our health.
Mr. Seth, the teacher representative, discussed the abilities that remain important and unchanged in this ever-changing world. He emphasized the value of good habits, solid study skills, and the ability to focus and persist. He also talked about turning our interests into hobbies that we truly devote time and energy to.
Mr. Joe began his speech by inviting students to play a fun game—guessing the image on the screen. He then connected this game to SSBS's core belief of being astute, observing the world around us, and using our skills to make an impact. Following that, he highlighted the power of "yet" and concluded his speech with three pieces of advice for students in the upcoming semester.
Next came a highlight moment—award-winning students stepped onto the stage to receive their certificates, celebrating their growth and dedication.
The ceremony ended on a high note with cheers and applause, carrying with it the hope that every student would continue to flourish in the months ahead.
