The 123rd Salon — "Connection"
On the afternoon of September 21, 2025, the Art Salon Gallery of Shanghai Starriver Bilingual School hosted its 123rd Art Salon series — Connection, a solo media exhibition by Isaac Zhang, under the guidance of Mr. Bao.
The exhibition presents over twenty photographs and a short film, captured across Japan, Shanghai, New York, Wenzhou, and Chicago, forming a journey that transcends both time and geography.
Guided by the theme of connection, Isaac seeks to answer a question that runs through modern existence: When loneliness becomes the norm, can we still find connection — with others, with nature, with our homeland, and with ourselves?
Structured around time and space, the photography section of the exhibition unfolds in three chapters — Urban Solitude, Human Encounters, and Resonance with Nature. From the silent rhythm of cities to fleeting moments between people, from nature’s quiet breath to the pull of homecoming, Isaac’s lens traces the invisible thread that binds us together. Each photograph becomes an introspective moment — a dialogue between seeing and being seen, distance and belonging — where light and shadow transform into the language of empathy.
The final section returns to Isaac’s hometown, Wenzhou, through the short film The Story of the Kite and the Wind. Told through poetic imagery of ancestral homes, temples, mountains, and rivers, the film draws from his first journey back home. The kite represents the wandering self; the wind, the enduring force of memory and spirit.
Connection is not merely an exhibition, but a self-reflective voyage — one that begins in the city, passes through people and nature, and finally returns to memory and origin. All students, faculty, and photography enthusiasts are warmly invited to embark on this journey of light and emotion — to gaze, to resonate, and to find your own connection.
