The 119th Salon — "Dance with Gods: Transcendent Contact"

As light, 13.8 billion years in the making, cuts through time and space, 23 celestial objects descend into our earthly realm through 23 poems and 23 astrophotographs. Luyi Wang (Louise Wang) invites the audience through her camera. Stars as the curtain, poems as stairs, the audience is presented with an unparallel dance among galaxies.

Shanghai Star River Bilingual School celebrated its 119th Salon on June 15th, 2025, featuring Louise’s astrophotography exhibition titled “Dance with Gods: Transcendent Contact.” The Salon took place in the Art Salon Gallery on the second floor of the Complex Building, guided by Mr. Bao. From the brilliant and blooming cosmic romantic Rose Nebula (NGC 2244) to the ethereal and dreamy Andromeda Galaxy (M31) - our nearest neighbor of the Milky Way; From the Flame Heart Nebula (IC405), where ice and fire quench each other, to the distant and profound Spiral Galaxy (M81), this is not only a visual enjoyment, but also a philosophy pondering interstellar, and a magic tour that compresses time and space into limited space. 23 astrophotographs, carefully selected, become the invitation that guides the audience into the grand dance.

This exhibition condenses the vast universe into four dance scenes, forming a symphony titled “Dance with Gods: Transcendent Contact.” The camera serves as a faithful witness to this distant performance. Long exposures patiently await the dancer's most graceful forms while precise post-processing brushes away the dust of light-years, revealing every delicate movement. Each frame is a fleeting intersection of human technology and cosmic beauty, a momentary glimpse into the choreography of the gods.

Every astrophotography tells a story. Each burst of color is not only a triumph of modern astronomical technology but also the result of countless cold nights, meticulous equipment calibration, and the quiet dedication of deep-sky photographers who master complex post-processing techniques. These images embody pure love that fuels their pursuit.

Louise’s camera not only captures light but also captures the poetic essence of the universe. And in observing, the audience becomes part of the dance itself.

Astrophotography offers more than images; it provides an experience. The exhibition becomes a space for wonder, curiosity, and meaningful exchange. In the following discussion segment, the audience raised questions actively, deepening their engagement with the cosmos.

Astrophotography weaves pure science (astronomy, physics, optics, and computer science) and pure art (composition, color, and emotional expression).

We warmly invite students, teachers, and astronomy enthusiasts from SSBS to visit and experience this interstellar journey. Come witness the universe’s magnificence, profundity, grandeur, and subtlety. Join us and be part of the cosmic dance!
